Elon Musk has called the supposedly Blade Runner design ‘heart-stopping’. The front of the Tesla pickup truck seen in a mostly indiscernible teaser image released earlier this year.   Image: Tesla Tesla will finally unveil its long-awaited electric pickup truck on November 21st, Elon Musk tweeted on Wednesday. The truck, which Musk has dubbed “Cybertruck,” is supposed to look like something straight out of Blade Runner, the CEO has said. The truck will be unveiled at Tesla’s design studio in Los Angeles, California, which sits on the same lot as SpaceX’s headquarters. Musk originally planned to reveal the pickup truck earlier this year, but he announced in September that he was pushing the event back to November. Musk has said the forthcoming pickup truck has a “heart-stopping” design, with better utility than a Ford F-150 and superior performance to a basic Porsche 911. "MUSK HAS PROMISED BETTER UTILITY THAN AN F-150 WITH PORSCHE-BEATING PERFORMANCE" Th...

Jaguar’s slick new electric hypercar will only exist in Gran Turismo

The newest entry in the longstanding Vision Gran Turismo program. Images: Jaguar Jaguar has placed itself at the forefront of the electric car revolution with the I-Pace SUV, despite being a smaller player in the overall car market. The British automaker also competes in all-electric racing series Formula E, and operates a whole support series made up of I-Paces. But the latest and greatest electric car from Jaguar will only be available in pixel form (at least, for now), as Jaguar has announced it’s the latest automaker to participate in the now six-year-long Vision Gran Turismo project, which has helped create a number of truly wild concept cars. On Friday, the company debuted the Jaguar Vision Gran Turismo Coupé, a low-slung hypercar that will be available to play in  Gran Turismo Sport  on the PlayStation 4 starting at the end of November. While all virtual, the new car has 750kW of total power ava...

The Ariya looks like an electric SUV that’s destined to be made. Photo by Sam Byford / The Verge Nissan unveiled a strange new electric concept car this week at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. Not strange in the sense that it had a virtual koi fish assistant, or that it resembled a boxy,  Blade Runner -y sedan, or that it sings. No, the new Nissan Ariya concept is strange because of how  normal  it looks. For the first time in a few years, you can look at the newest Nissan concept and get a real sense of what the company might do with an electric car that isn’t the Leaf. That’s on the design side, at least. Nissan didn’t tease too many technical details with the Ariya, save for saying that it was designed to be powered by a twin electric motor setup that will enable all-wheel drive performance. (Which, personally, I find sort of ironic considering the automaker’s team in all-electric racing series Formula E got twin-motor setups banned from the ser...
