Aurora is finally ready to show the world what it’s been up to

Image
The secretive self-driving car company unveiled its plans for 2020 Aurora, the self-driving car company founded by former Waymo engineer Chris Urmson, doesn’t do dog and pony shows. It doesn’t trot out its vehicles just to prove they exist or take journalists for test drives to demonstrate that the technology actually works. In fact, in the three years since Aurora launched, the public has heard very little about how Aurora plans to compete against Waymo, Ford, and General Motors. After months of announcements — the company acquired a LIDAR sensor maker, hired a VP of hardware, and took an investment from Amazon — that finally appears to be changing. Just before the New Year, Urmson’s co-founders Sterling Anderson and Drew Bagnell hosted a rare media event to talk about their technology and take journalists for test drives. It was, in other words, a dog and pony show. “These vehicles look like garbage because they’re test vehicles,” Anderson said, before ushering us o

APPLE OPENS ITS REVAMPED BUG BOUNTY PROGRAM TO THE PUBLIC

Image
The program will now include macOS, iCloud, and other products beyond iOS. Apple has opened its bug bounty program to all security researchers, offering rewards of $1 million or more for discoveries of major flaws in its operating systems. The program, which had been open by invitation only since its launch in 2016, now includes operating systems beyond iOS. Apple first announced at the Black Hat conference in August that it was opening the program to the public, and that iCloud, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, and watchOS would be on the bug bounty list. Researchers have to submit a detailed description of the issue, and enough detail to allow Apple to reproduce it.    THE PROGRAM INCLUDES A 50 PERCENT BONUS FOR BUGS DISCOVERED IN BETA The top payouts will go to researchers who discover bugs that affect multiple Apple platforms, especially if the issue affects the latest Apple devices and software. Any bug discovered in a beta version will earn the researcher a 5

ARTICLE: Prayer In This Part Of The World.

Image
Prayer is an invocation or act that seeks to activate a rapport with an object of worship through deliberate communication.  In the narrow sense, the term refers to an act of supplication or intercession directed towards a deity (a god), or a deified ancestor. More generally, prayer can also have the purpose of thanks giving or praise, and in comparative religion is closely associated with more abstract forms of meditation and with charms or spells. According to wikipedia prayer may be expressed vocally or mentally, vocal prayer may be spoken or sung and mental prayer can be either meditation or contemplation. The basic forms of prayer are praise, petition (supplication), intercession, and thanksgiving. I want to say emphatically that prayer in this part of the world is been misinterpreted from its rudiments, people pray to God for things that are meant to be carried out by government or an attitude/character of oneself. ''God please let me meet light at home&

BMW reveals i4 electric car in testing, promises nearly 400 miles of range

Image
But don’t bet on the specs just yet. Images: BMW BMW has been teasing the i4 electric car for years, and now the German automaker has released camouflaged photos of the sedan being tested in winter weather conditions ahead of a 2021 release. The company also started teasing some eye-popping specs — namely, 600 kilometers (373 miles) of range and 530 horsepower. The range is particularly impressive since BMW says the vehicle only has an 80kWh battery pack. (For reference, Tesla recently squeezed a similar 373 miles out of its own 100kWh battery pack.) There are likely a couple of factors at play here. One, it’s almost certain that BMW is basing this range figure on the European testing cycle, which tends to return more optimistic estimates. If that is the case, then the ultimate EPA-estimated range of the vehicle will be closer to 300 miles when all is said and done. Still great, but not “nearly 400 miles” great. BMW ATTRIBUTES THE RANGE SPEC TO “SIGNIFICANT ADVANCEMENTS” IN

Security robots are mobile surveillance devices, not human replacements

Image
They’re scooping up data, from facial scans to license plates. Photo: Knightscope Security robots are slowly becoming a more common sight in malls, offices, and public spaces. But while these bots are often presented as replacements for human security guards — friendly robots on patrol — they’re collecting far more data than humans could, suggesting they’re more like mobile surveillance machines than conventional guards. A new report from OneZero sheds some light on the scope of the data collection, featuring marketing material and contracts between Knightscope and various city councils. Both show that the main purpose of these robots is gathering data, including license plates, facial recognition scans, and the presence of nearby mobile devices. It’s the sort of constant low-level surveillance that only a machine can perform. Exactly what each robot collects differs, as Knightscope leases its bots rather than selling them outright, tailoring each contract to customers’

Ford’s all-electric SUV gets an official name: Mustang Mach-E

Image
Reservations will open on November 17th. Ford’s all-electric Mustang-inspired SUV won’t be revealed to the public until November 17th, so, naturally, the slow drip-drip of information has begun. The company finally announced the vehicle’s official name — the Mustang Mach-E — and you’ll be able to reserve one for yourself starting this Sunday. For a while, Ford was using the codename “Mach 1” to refer to the electric SUV. “Mach E” was also a name that was rumored to be under consideration. Now, we have the official name, making it clear that the Blue Oval isn’t big on surprises or misdirection. The big debut, hosted by actor Idris Elba, will help kick off the annual Los Angeles Auto Show starting next week. As soon as the event is over at approximately 6:30PM PT / 9:30PM ET, reservations will open at Ford.com. Customers will have to drop $500 to reserve the Mustang Mach-E, though the deposits are refundable. A “limited first edition” version of the vehicle will also be av
