Breaking: At Least Seven Students Have Been Injured In A School Shooting In Colorado

Two suspects were taken into custody, authorities said.

At least seven students were injured in a shooting at a school outside of Denver, Colorado, authorities said Tuesday.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said officials responded to reports of shots fired at 1:53 p.m. at STEM School, a K-12 charter school in Highlands Ranch.
Douglas County Undersheriff Holly Nicholson-Kluth said at least seven people — and a possible eighth — were injured and two suspects were in custody, adding that officials were still going room to room to clear the scene.
The sheriff's office said on Twitter that the injured were students. They were transported to local hospitals.
"Quite a few shots were fired and police officers, sheriff's officers were on scene almost immediately," Nicholson-Kluth told reporters during a briefing, adding that deputies could still hear shots as they arrived on scene and entered the school.
The school is on lockdown, according to the Douglas County School District. All other Highlands Ranch schools are on lockout.
Nicholson-Kluth said the shooting started in the campus' middle school. She said officials did not yet know whether the suspects were students but believed they were juveniles.
Speaking on-air to anchors at Denver 7 News, Christian, a sixth-grader at the school, said he was in study hall when he saw a bunch of students running and yelling, "School shooter, school shooter!"
"I'm like what ... is this real or fake," he said. "I just ran after them. ... I just got out of there."
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in Denver is responding to the incident.
Colorado Gov. Jared Polis said he was monitoring the situation and making all public safety resources available to assist the sheriff's department.
"The heart of all Colorado is with the victims and their families," Polis said on Twitter.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
