Google fixes Android Q beta bootloop issue, resumes updates

Google has re-released Android Q’s fourth beta after fixing an issue that caused some Pixel devices to “bootloop,”meaning they were trapped in a constant reset state. The issue arose after some Pixel users tried to install the beta Over-The-Air. Writing on Twitter, Google said that all devices enrolled in the beta will now receive the new Beta 4 update, and that it has updated the downloadable images for developers.
The incident is a good reminder to never install beta software on any hardware that you rely on as your primary device, no matter how tempting its shiny new features might be. That said, outside of this incident Google’s Android updates tend to be quite reliable. With Android Nougat the company introduced a new “A/B (Seamless) System Updates” method to allow a device to roll back to a previous version when encountering problems with an update — it’s unclear why the fallback didn’t catch the problem on this occasion.
Android Q Beta 4 is a fairly minor update in the grand scheme of things. As well as tweaking the software’s new dark mode theme and fixing various bugs, the update included a new settings menu item that hints at native facial recognition coming to Android.

Giertz got tired of waiting for Elon Musk to release Tesla’s first pickup truck, so she made one herself. Simone Giertz was tired of waiting for Elon Musk to unveil his new Tesla pickup truck, so she decided to make one herself. The popular YouTuber and self-described “queen of shitty robots” transformed a Model 3 into an honest-to-god pickup truck, which she dubs “Truckla” — and naturally you can watch all the cutting and welding (and cursing) on her YouTube channel. Hertz launches $1,000-per-month car subscription service

The rental car giant announced Tuesday that it is launching a pilot version of a subscription service called “Hertz My Car” in Austin, Texas and Atlanta, Georgia. The Hertz My Car subscription service will be offered in two tiers, both of which include full vehicle maintenance, roadside assistance, damage to the vehicle (though with a $1,000 deductible), and limited liability protection. The $999 per month tier includes full-size sedans, small SUVs, and trucks. Luxury sedans, regular SUVs, and larger trucks will be available for $1,399 per month. Subscribers will be able to swap their vehicle twice a month within their own tier (Hertz will allow additional swaps for $75).
